How to Set a Parenting Schedule?

If you're managing a 2-2-3 custody plan, the easiest way to stay organized is with Google Calendar. With just three recurring events, you can build a reliable, color-coded schedule that reflects the parenting plan—and repeats on autopilot every two weeks.

Let’s walk through exactly how to do it.

What is a 2-2-3 Schedule?

In a 2-2-3 plan, each parent alternates midweek blocks and alternating weekends. The full schedule runs on a two-week loop:

Week 1: Parent A has Mon–Wed and Fri–Mon while Parent B has Wednesday - Friday

Week 2: Parent A has Wed–Fri and Parent B has Monday-Wednesday and Friday-Monday
Then the cycle repeats.

How to Set It Up in Google Calendar

You only need three recurring events—each repeating every 2 weeks—to set up the entire cycle.

✅ Step 1: Create the Monday–Wednesday Event (Week 1) starting with YOUR first Monday.

Title: “Kids with me” or "Kids at my house" or "My Mon-Weds"

Start: Monday (time of your exchange) (e.g., Monday, August 26)

End: Wednesday (time of your exchange)

Repeats: Every 2 weeks starting from that first Monday

✅ Step 2: Create the Wednesday–Friday Event starting with YOUR first Wednesday.  This will be the following week.

Title: “Kids with me” or "Kids at my house" or "My Weds-Fri"

Start: Wednesday of the following week (time of your exchange)

End: Friday (time of your exchange)

Repeats: Every 2 weeks starting from YOUR first Wednesday (which again, is the week after YOUR first Monday)

✅ Step 3: Create the Weekend Event (Week 1).  This will be the first weekend after YOUR first Monday.

Title: “My weekend" or whatever you want.

Start: Friday (time of your exchange) (e.g., Friday, August 30)

End: Monday (time of your exchange)

Repeats: Every 2 weeks on Friday

How to Set Up a 2-2-5 Parenting Schedule in Google Calendar

The 2-2-5-5 schedule gives each parent two fixed weeknights and alternates weekends, providing consistency and structure for both parents and children. Here’s how to easily set it up in Google Calendar using only two recurring events.

🧭 Understanding the 2-2-5-5 Pattern

This custody plan is designed for predictability:

Parent A always has custody Monday–Wednesday (time of your exchange)

Parent B always has custody Wednesday–Friday (time of your exchange)

Weekends alternate Friday–Monday

The weekday time is fixed. The only rotating element is the weekend.

📅 Google Calendar Setup Instructions

Step 1: Create the Weekday Event (Mon–Weds or Weds–Fri)

Start with your consistent two-day weekday block. If you're Parent A, your block is Monday–Wednesday. If you're Parent B, it’s Wednesday–Friday.

Title: “Kids with me – Weekdays” or “My Mon–Wed”

Start: Monday (time of your exchange) (e.g., Monday, August 26)

End: Wednesday (time of your exchange)

Repeats: Weekly on Monday

OR for Parent B:

Start: Wednesday (time of your exchange) (e.g., Wednesday, August 28)

End: Friday (time of your exchange)

Repeats: Weekly on Wednesday

This ensures you have your weekday time blocked on the calendar every week.

✅ Step 2: Create the Weekend Event (Alternating Friday–Monday)

The alternating weekends are the rotating piece of the schedule.

Title: “My Weekend” or “Kids with me – Weekend”

Start: Friday (time of your exchange) (e.g., Friday, August 30)

End: Monday (time of your exchange)

Repeats: Every 2 weeks on Friday

This weekend event alternates automatically—once you assign the correct start Friday, it will recur every other week on the correct rotation.
